In season two, after Rachel finds out Ross is dating Julie, heartbroken and drunk, she has a one night stand with Paolo, but it doesn't amount to anything further than that.

Russ

Rachel and russ

Rachel and Russ

In "The One With Russ", Rachel dates a man named Russ, who to the bewilderment of her friends looks and acts eerily similar to Ross. Rachel bizarrely does not see the multiple similarities between Ross and Russ, and even more bizarrely, neither do either of them. Rachel dates Russ as a rebound relationship after breaking up with Ross upon learning of a list of her pros and cons he had written up whilst trying to decide whether to date her or Julie, but the fact that she would date a man who resembles him so much - even if she hasn't noticed the aforementioned resemblances - seems to strongly imply that she is still attracted to him, and the other friends actually suggest this theory to her. Eventually, when Rachel sees the two arguing, she finally sees the similarities between them and walks away, disturbed. She later breaks up with Russ, who consequently becomes depressed and one day while hanging out at the coffee shop is spotted by Ross' ex-girlfriend Julie, who is likewise depressed after Ross broke up with her. Julie is attracted to Russ as soon as she sees him, and when she speaks to him, they begin a relationship. However, Julie, like Rachel at first, most likely hasn't noticed how much Russ resembles Ross.

The two finally date, but break up after Rachel hastily proposes to Joshua after 4 dates in "The One With All The Wedding Dresses". Gary

Phoebe and Gary

Phoebe and Gary

When Phoebe first meets Gary, she's running around with his police badge (which she found in a chair at the coffee shop), abusing his power in nature's defense. Gary is one of her victims, which she promptly orders to park his car off the pavement, stating she's a cop. When she learns that Gary's also a cop, he starts asking her trick questions to prove her occupation, leaving her with no choice but to drop the badge and run away. After tracking her old address (i.e. Monica's apartment) he asks her out for a date.

Not much is known about his relationship with Phoebe, but it is mostly based on sex. He tries to make things move forward with her when he asks her to move in. She is reluctant at first because he asks too soon, but after Chandler's talk with Gary and Gary's interrogation of Phoebe, she accepts. The moving-in lasts only one day, however, as on the very first morning, he shoots a bird just because it's chirping too loudly. Phoebe is very disturbed by this and breaks up with him.

Parker

Phoebeandparker

Phoebe and Parker

Phoebe is initially angry at her friends but soon becomes irritated by Parker's enthusiasm, too, and when she, out of frustration with him, tells him she wants him to be "much less happy" he responds by breaking up with her.

Mike Hannigan

Mikeandphoebe

Mike and Phoebe

Mike was one of Phoebe's serious relationships and one of her only long-lasting, committed, stable relationships. Mike and Phoebe meet in Season 9, and get married at the end of Season 10. Mike is a piano player with his own piano bar, and was married once before he married Phoebe.

Phoebe meets Mike by accident in "The One With The Pediatrician". She and Joey agree to set each up on blind dates, but Joey forgets, and when Phoebe asks for more information about her date, Joey says his name is Mike on the spot. He goes into Central Perk, and yells out, "Mike!" and Mike Hannigan just happens to be in there and answers him. Joey brings him on the date and pretends Mike is an old friend of his. The truth soon slips out, and Phoebe leaves angrily. However, when speaking to Mike later on in Central Perk, she realizes how much she likes him and they set up another date. Soon, they begin a steady relationship that lasts throughout much of Season 9. The relationship is, in fact, so serious that Mike introduces Phoebe to his parents in "The One With Ross's Inappropriate Song". At first, the evening does not go well, as Mike's parents are unimpressed with Phoebe. However, Mike tells them off, saying that what they think does not matter because he loves Phoebe.

Phoebe and Mike further enhance their relationship by deciding to move in together in "The One With The Boob Job". Phoebe thinks this step will bring them closer to marriage, which is something she really wants. However, she learns that Mike has no interest in marrying again, as his divorce from his first wife was so painful. At first, Phoebe acts as if she does not want marriage either, but her true feelings are obvious. She and Mike end their relationship.

In "The One With The Donor", Phoebe is getting prepared to attend the same party as Mike and it is obvious she still has feelings for him. She ends up missing the party when she runs into her old boyfriend, David, who is back from Minsk for good. Phoebe immediately begins dating David again, but it is clear she still has feelings for Mike when she repeatedly calls David "Mike." David decides to propose to Phoebe in the Season 9 finale, "The One In Barbados, Part 1". Monica calls Mike to tell him, as she knows Phoebe really has feelings for him. Mike acts as if he does not care, but he shows up in Barbados just as David is about to propose to Phoebe. Mike proposes first, but Phoebe declines. She wants a relationship again, not a marriage. Although she is not marrying him (yet), they immediately begin dating again and Mike stays in Barbados with Phoebe for the remainder of the trip.

In "The One Where Rachel's Sister Baby-Sits", Mike plans to propose to Phoebe. When they are at a game, someone proposes to someone else on the big screen; Phoebe says this is tacky, and as it turns out, that is how Mike was going to propose. He has one more failed attempt, but finally, he proposes to her successfully at a restaurant and Phoebe accepts. In "The One With Phoebe's Wedding", Phoebe and Mike marry. At first, due to a blizzard, it appears that the wedding may have to be postponed, but Rachel suggests they have an outdoor wedding outside Central Perk, which they do. For her wedding vows, Phoebe tells Mike that growing up, she never had a family and felt like something was missing, but now, she says, "I know I'll have everything I'll ever need. You're my family." After this episode, Mike only appears a few more times, but it is clear the marriage is a happy and interesting one. It is noted in "The One Where Joey Speaks French", that they had an enjoyable and romantic honeymoon with candlelit dinners and long walks on the beach. In "The One With Princess Consuela", Phoebe is going to legally change her name to "Phoebe Hannigan" but ends up changing it to "Princess Consuela Banana hammock." It is clear that Mike is not too happy about this when he sarcastically says he is going to change his name to "Crap Bag." In "The Last One, Part 1", after seeing Monica and Chandler with their twins, Mike tells Phoebe he wants to start a family with her. Phoebe agrees, saying she wants to have a bunch of kids with him.

Joey

Joey has not had many long-term relationships due to his commitment issues and lack of morals in that area. However he has repeatedly had one night stands with every woman in New York, or Manhattan at least. Rachel joked that he had gone out with every girl and was going around for a second time. In Central Perk he got the confidence to ask a girl out but didn't because he remembered he had slept with her.

Chandler tells Joey to give Kathy the book but later on, Kathy confronts Chandler saying that she knows it was him and he is a great guy. Kathy and Chandler share a kiss behind Joey's back and she breaks up with Joey. He reveals he thinks she has feelings for some other guy. Chandler comes out that he is the other guy and that they kissed. Joey becomes extremely mad at Chandler for betraying his trust. Joey wants Chandler to think about what he's done by sitting in a wooden box for a short period of time to prove how sorry he is for kissing Kathy and Joey eventually gives Chandler his blessing to date her.

Joey sees this as his chance to make his move. They nearly kiss but the camera stops since they will film the scene on the real New Year. Janine and Joey are both depressed until they get home and have a real first kiss. Janine and Joey finally become a couple. They break up at the end of the following episode when Joey finds out that Janine does not like Monica and Chandler, due to being irritated by how loud Monica can be "for such a small person" and how, as she puts it, "blah" Chandler can be. After witnessing an argument between her and them, Joey gives her a chance to bury the hatchet with them, but when she ruins this by subsequently insulting Monica again, he ultimately decides he can't choose her over two people he considers family to him and ends it with her, spurring her to move out.

On the New Year's Eve of that year, Chandler is desperate to have a woman to kiss at midnight, so he calls her and they get together again. The same night he breaks up with her again, infuriating her.  Two months later, they accidentally meet up again through a double date arranged by Joey, but Chandler breaks up with her again on Valentine's Day  due to her annoying character traits. By now though, Janice has wizened up and knows he will be back again, or to put it into her words: "Your voice calls out to me like a foghorn - Jaaaniiice, Jaaaaaaaaaniiice". He eventually begins an online relationship with a woman and when they decide to finally meet, it turns out it is Janice. They begin a romantic relationship where they are both very happy. They eventually break up when Joey catches Janice kissing her ex husband at his mattress store.

After his break up with Kathy, he runs into Janice at a nail salon and she has just gotten divorced. He pretends he has to move to Yemen to avoid breaking up with her. Janice reappears several times throughout the series but does not strike up a relationship again, though when she is in labor for the second time she tells him it is his baby as a joke. Chandler twice employs a trick of pretending he still has feelings for her to get rid of her. When she is staying at the apartment he shares with Monica, he says it to make her leave, and when she wants to buy the house next to their new one, he pretends he has feelings for her and wants to have an affair so he and Monica  do not have to run into her every day.

For the next year, they have a steady relationship with a few ups and downs, mainly related to their respective long time exes, Janice and Richard.

The gang go to the beach but Bonnie cannot join them due to work. While at the beach, Ross and Rachel start to flirt but Bonnie shows up since she was able to leave work early. Bonnie comes back from swimming in the ocean and she tells Rachel how she's considered re-shaving her head since it was so much easier to take care of that way. Rachel deviously encourages her to go through with it and Ross is disturbed to later learn that she has indeed shaved her head. Ross and Rachel kiss and reconcile which leads to Ross breaking up with Bonnie, but Rachel breaks up with Ross again when he refuses to take full responsibility for everything that went wrong in their relationship.

Emily

Ross and Emily, as Rachel stands in the background

Emily is Ross's second wife and they are married for the shortest time. Ross and Emily meet when Rachel is suppose to take her boss, Mr. Waltham's niece out on a tour of New York. Rachel cancels at the last minute and Emily is furious. Ross agrees to take her out but everyone hates Emily from the first impression, thinking she is a cold hearted, hateful person. Ross and Emily spend the night together and wake up at a Bed and Breakfast in Vermont and instantly fall in love. They agree not to get serious since they only have two weeks together. However, Ross tries to persuade Emily to move to New York and be with him. Emily refuses since she thinks that it would be taking things too quickly, but tells them things would be different if  they were engaged. Ross decides to propose to Emily and she happily agrees. Ross and Emily plan to wed in England where Emily's father married his first wife/her mother. Ross and Emily are very happy together but their wedding is a complete disaster. Ross' parents clash with Emily's father and stepmother; the building that Ross and Emily want to get married in is being torn down; Emily nearly backs out of the wedding; and during the vows, Ross says Rachel's name instead of Emily's.

Season five shows a darker side to Emily's personality. After walking up the aisle, Emily punches Ross in the gut. Rachel, Monica, Joey, and Chandler listen in on Emily yelling at Ross during the reception. Ross comes out of the room saying he's going to give Emily some time to calm down. Emily escapes out of the bathroom window and Emily's father alerts Ross that Emily has gone into hiding and never wants to see her estranged husband ever again. Ross tells Emily's parents to tell her that he will be at the airport waiting to go on their honeymoon and that she is still welcome to meet him there. Ross waits for Emily for a long time and he runs into Rachel. He offers to let her come on the honeymoon with him. Rachel agrees and gets on the plane just as Emily arrives. Emily is furious once again and runs away with Ross chasing after her, leading to Rachel going to Greece alone. Ross continually tries to get in contact with Emily but it is hopeless. Emily finally calls Ross to ask him to leave her family alone. Ross convinces Emily to come to New York and be with him on the condition that he never sees or speaks to Rachel ever again. Ross reluctantly agrees. Emily also forces Ross to get a new apartment and all new furniture that is just theirs. Emily calls Ross and realizes Rachel is there and is furious. Ross tells Emily that in order to make their marriage work, she needs to learn to trust him. Emily says she cannot do that and they end up getting divorced. Several months later, Ross learns that Emily is getting remarried and he becomes depressed. Emily calls Ross the day before her wedding saying that she is having second thoughts and wants him to call her back and maybe reconcile. Rachel and Monica hear the message and accidentally delete it. Rachel tells Ross but convinces him not to call her back since she doesn't want him to have to go through with all that again.

Elizabeth

Ross and Elizabeth

Ross and Elizabeth

Elizabeth is Ross' main love interest throughout season six and his first major love interest since his third divorce. Ross meets Elizabeth at NYU where Ross is her professor. With the semester over and Elizabeth no longer in his class, Elizabeth confesses her crush for Dr. Geller and they begin a secret relationship since it is against the rules for professors to date students. Elizabeth's father disapproves of the relationship and dates Rachel. Elizabeth's father threatens to report Ross to the school board and have him fired. Elizabeth and Ross continue to date despite of what her father threatens to do. Rachel, Monica, Phoebe, Joey, and Chandler make fun of Ross dating a girl who is so much younger than him. Ross starts to take their jokes seriously and thinks about Elizabeth's maturity. Ross goes over to Elizabeth's apartment to talk to her when he finds her and her girlfriends having a water balloon fight with some guys across the hall. Ross sees how immature Elizabeth is and he breaks up with her. She apparently takes it well until he goes outside and Elizabeth throws a water balloon at him in retaliation to him dumping her.

Their evening is ruined when Rachel's father storms into Ross' apartment, furious with him for getting Rachel pregnant and not marrying her. Ross works everything out and tells Mona the whole story and what is going on. Mona and Ross continue to date. Ross seems to keep forgetting plans made with Mona which becomes a gag in one episode when he always comes to Rachel's side. Mona and Ross decide to take their relationship further by having a Christmas card of them sent out but Ross says they are not at that stage in their relationship yet. When Mona asks Ross what stage they are at, Ross panics and gives Mona a key to his apartment instead. Mona goes to visit her parents for a week and Ross and Rachel decide to move in together so they can raise their baby together, but not as a couple. When Mona returns, she breaks up with Ross due to the situation being too complicated.
